かつて肥前国(ひぜんのくに)と呼ばれていたこれらの地は、窯業を営む豊富な資源に恵まれ、やきもの文化が育まれてきました。

何百年もの時を経て受け継がれてきた技術と心。 やきものは、自然と向き合い、自分を磨く、職人たちのひたむきな姿勢そのもの。
静謐さや郷愁、朴訥としたあたたかさなど、その美しさは産地ごとに異なります。

傷や汚れといった経年変化でさえ、その“もの”がもつストーリーとして価値となる、肥前のやきものは、心の中に、暮らしの中に、豊かさを育んでくれるのです。

- Karatsu, Imari, Takeo, Ureshino, Arita

These 5 neighboring areas together were once known as the Hizen Province. Well renowned for their abundant resources, they have been regions where pottery culture has flourished and been nurtured for generations.

The techniques and the spirit of the pottery craft have been passed down through hundreds of years in these regions. The results of the dedication to technique of each artisan can been seen in each individual piece of pottery.

Varying from region to region, the beauty and style of each work is unique, conveying a feeling of tranquility, nostalgia, and a simple warmth.

Over time, each piece ages with grace. The patina and imperfections that begin to develop upon use add pieces of your story to a craft rich with history.

唐津
古くから茶人に愛され、歴史と伝統ある唐津焼。
粗い土を使ったざっくりとした土味と渋い色調が特徴で、素朴で、あたたかい力強さが魅力。とくに、わび・さびを重んじる茶道では、シンプルで深みを感じさせる作風が好まれ、愛用されています。

Karatsu
Karatsu ware: deep with history and tradition, it has been cherished by tea artisans since ancient times.

Characterized by its earthy and austere tones born from the local soil, Karatsu ware is revered for the rustic and warm sense of strength that radiates from each piece.

Wabi-sabi, or the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of beauty in imperfection, is a defining feature of Karatsu ware. It is for this reason that it is preferentially used in tea ceremonies.

伊万里
伊万里鍋島焼とも呼ばれる、伊万里焼。

もとは有田焼とほぼ同じものですが、庶民向けに生産された有田焼とは違い、鍋島藩(佐賀藩)藩主の命により、献上品や贈答品といった特別な目的のために製作されました。

Imari
Imari ware: traditionally known as “Imari Nabeshima” ware.

Sharing similarities with works from Arita, the roots of Imari ware were of Japanese royalty. Where as Arita ware was historically produced for the common people, Imari ware was crafted for special occasions such as tributes and gifts by order of the lords of Nabeshima in current Saga prefecture.

武雄
江戸のモダニズムと称される、武雄焼。

「陶器」と「磁器」の両方が存在する珍しい産地で、 古武雄から続く多彩な文様表現など、伝統的な技法を生かしながら、 およそ90軒もの窯元が、個性を尊重し、多様な製品を生み出しています。

鉄絵・緑釉・鉄釉・刷毛目・叩きの技法で、大皿、瓶、壺、茶碗、甕など多様なやきものが作られており、「有田でも唐津でもない武雄のやきもの」として、古き良き時代と新しい時代を体現している作品が、次々と生まれています。

Takeo

Takeo ware: know as Edo's modernism.

The Takeo area is unique in that both “pottery” and “porcelain” are produced. *

Artisans in the area make use of techniques and pattern expressions in their works that have been passed down since ancient times. Although there are about 90 firing kilns in the Takeo area, artisans at each kiln incorporate their own individual style, blending new and old techniques.

嬉野
嬉野市吉田地区で400年以上の歴史を誇る、肥前吉田焼。

暮らしに密着した食器が中心で、あくまで日常生活に使える陶磁器を作っているのが特徴。水玉模様の急須や湯のみが代表的で、ひとつ一つ削って描き出していく「掻き落とし」という伝統技法が使われています。

Ureshino
Hizen Yoshida ware: born in the Yoshida region of Ureshino city, it boasts a history of over 400 years.

Not overly ornate, the philosophy behind the design of Yoshida ware is to make something that can be used regularly in daily life.

Rather than being painted on, the polka dot pattern commonly used in Yoshida ware teapots and cups is carefully carved into each work, one by one.

有田
日本最古の磁器と言われる、有田焼。

ガラス質を多く含んだ原料(陶石)により作られ、きめ細やかな手触りで濁りのない透き通るように白い磁肌と、呉須による藍色の美しい染付が特徴です。

Arita
Arita ware: the birthplace of porcelain in Japan.

Made from a combination of pottery stone and glass as its raw materials, Arita ware is characterized by its translucent like surface. The beauty of this surface is often embellished with Gosu, an indigo colored dye.
